Intestinal (Bowel) Inflammation Test

CALPROTECTIN ALERT® is a stool test that screens for elevated calprotectin, a protein released by neutrophils during intestinal inflammation. Elevated faecal calprotectin suggests inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis and helps distinguish IBD from functional conditions like irritable bowel syndrome. The test identifies calprotectin above a clinical threshold commonly around 50 µg/g and is intended as a first line non invasive check for people experiencing persistent diarrhoea, blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, severe abdominal pain or recurring inflammation symptoms. Because it is a home screening test a raised result should prompt urgent follow up with a gastroenterologist or GP for formal testing, laboratory calprotectin, imaging or colonoscopy where indicated and to rule out infection, malignancy or other causes. The test can reduce unnecessary immediate invasive procedures when used appropriately and is a helpful step to get clarity quickly.
